Below are some of the features that make the ULTima platform unique: Unique Patented Image Positioning and Slant Correction Positioning tools on ULTima AQ software help position gels or other samples from the computer. The positioning is easy, accurate and fast with minimum handling of fragile gels or other samples. Every user of an imaging system has experienced the problem that the gel is never in the right place initially. With most commercially available systems the user has to open the drawer or door and manually handle the gel for the best visualization. The ULTima, however, is the only imaging system with patented optics for image positioning without loss of optical resolution. This also ensures that lens adjustments are not required. The image is positioned with the positioning keys without having to open the cabinet or adjust a fragile gel. Slant correction tools permit optical rotation of the sample for best ‘straight’ visualization without touching the gel. Slant correction is a unique feature that allows the user to turn the image optically ± 5°. In this way the sample can be positioned so the analysis software is better able to perform lane detection.     Flatfielding ULTima imaging systems allow accurate quantitative measurements of samples with a unique feature called flatfielding. Flatfielding is done in two easy steps after selecting the flatfielding option on the ULTima AQ software. Flatfielding removes artifacts resulting from small variations in the CCD and uneven background presenting a true image of sample intensities. The Orange conversion plate is used to create a flatfield image and the ULTima AQ software uses this flatfield image to “clean up” any variations to present raw image data that is highly accurate. Image Addition ULTima imaging systems allow users to simultaneously capture multiple images of the same sample at a set interval with a unique feature called Image Addition. The user can set the number of images to be ‘added’ and the time interval between acquisitions. This feature allows the ULTima to be used in kinetic studies. If the image addition is used in combination with the Auto-Save function, all the individual images will be stored. The added result should be stored manually. Templates Templates allow the user to define the settings for image acquisition including the excitation and emission filters. The parameters are stored per specific application. Orange Conversion Plate The optional orange conversion plate allows transillumation of visible dyes like Coomassie and silver stain on a UV transilluminator.
